f you are interested in adding audio to your website, streaming audio is definitely the way to go. Streaming audio is not downloaded to your visitor's computer as simple audio files are. Instead, the audio file is played directly from the website, with no download necessary. The visitor clicks the link to listen to the audio, and their default media player opens up right away.

Streaming audio is preferred to other forms of audio because your visitor does not have to wait for a big download. They can start listening to your message instantly. The listener needs a computer with a soundcard and speakers or headphones, and a browser with the appropriate plug in for your file type. If they do not have the plug in installed, they can easily download it for free, and be listening to your audio in a matter of minutes.

There are many free programs available around the Internet that will help you record your audio. Other than that, you need a microphone for your computer to record the files. There are also free audio editing programs available. However, for the best quality, you may find that purchasing recording and editing software is the better way to go.

Simply follow the directions for recording the audio with the software that you will be using. Compress the file and make it as small as possible, without sacrificing quality of sound. Streaming audio files can be saved as mp3 files, which most people are already equipped to listen to on their computers.

If no directions are available, upload the mp3 file, and then using notepad, type in the domain path to your mp3, such as http://www.mydomain.com/mymp3.mp3. Save this file as mymp3.m3u and upload it as well. When you place the link for your audio file on your webpage, use the http://www.mydomain.com/mymp3.m3u link.
